Mervin is the founding Artistic Director of the Toronto Beach Chorale (TBC) and has been engaging and inspiring audiences and choristers alike since its formation in 2007.
Since its inception, TBC has served as a vital musical presence, achieving a reputation for artistic excellence through its performances of the classical choral repertoire. The organization celebrated its 10th anniversary in the 2017/18 season, mounting an ambitious and resoundingly successful series of concerts featuring Handel, Mozart and Beethoven. The concerts included the choir’s first ever performances of Handel’s Messiah (December/17), WA Mozart’s Great Mass in Cminor (March/18) and Beethoven’s Fantasia for Piano, Orchestra and Choir (April/18).
The Toronto Beach Chorale was originally established as a ‘neighbourhood choir’ to serve The Beach, an area of the city without a classical community choir. Following the success of the 10th anniversary season, Mervin challenged the executive and members of the organization to pursue further growth opportunities to become recognized beyond the local neighbourhood as a vital arts choral organization within the fabric of the choral communities within the City of Toronto.
TBC will always maintain its high profile in The Beach, while inviting audiences to ‘come with them and explore the city’.
